I AM #6 – The Way, the Truth and the Life

“Jesus answered, ‘I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:6

SETTING

Who was there?

Jesus and the Twelve

Where did the events take place?

In the Upper Room in Jerusalem

When did they take place?

At sunset during the Last Supper on the night Jesus was arrested

What took place?

This was the Last Supper that Jesus would share with His disciples on earth.  After they ate, Jesus washed their feet.  He predicted His betrayal and Peter’s denial.   He told them to love one another.  Their love for each other is how others will recognize His followers.  Then He told them about heaven, and assured them that they already knew the way to heaven.  “Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ “ (John 14:5).  Jesus replied with today’s verse.

SUBJECT

In His final teaching session with the disciples, Jesus used three clear and powerful word pictures in summarizing Who He is.

Jesus is the …          He is our One and only …

WAY

Access to the Father and all that is ours as His children

Model for behavior:  “What would Jesus do?”

TRUTH

Standard for determining what is right, certain and absolute

Example of everything that is excellent and praiseworthy

LIFE

Source of an existence that is abundant, real and genuine

Connection to strength, vigor and vitality

SUMMARY

What do you need today?  Jesus is there waiting and willing to help.  If you’ve lost your way, Jesus is there.  If you’re not sure what the right thing is to do, Jesus knows.  If your life seems hopeless, and you don’t think you can go on, Jesus will carry you.  He knows; He cares; He’s there.  The ball is in you court.

PRAYER

Lord, You are all I need, and all I want, in my life.  Thank You for being there for me in the good times and the bad times.  I love You.  Amen
