Spiritual Gifts 101: Where?

Where are spiritual gifts discussed in the Bible?
There are five main passages in the New Testament that talk about spiritual gifts in detail. The table below indicates which gifts are listed in each passage.

Where should spiritual gifts be used?
Spiritual gifts should be used everywhere – home, church, work, and community. In fact, since a spiritual gift is the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit is with you always, your spiritual gifts are with you wherever you go.

As someone has said, everywhere you go, there you are.” You probably are already using your gifts without knowing it. If your gift is helps, you will naturally help wherever you can. Should you have the gift of mercy, you will show mercy when it’s needed. No matter which gifts God has given you, you will use them wherever and whenever the situation requires it.

My primary spiritual gift is teaching. I like to have my Quiet Time in various coffee shops in my neighborhood. Whenever I discover a spiritual truth or principle in Scripture, the first thing I do is look for someone to tell. I find that I teach others without knowing it. I’ll be having a discussion with someone, and suddenly I’m teaching them something about the topic.

Whatever your spiritual gifts might be, you can be confident that you are already using them in daily life. So be more intentional in using your gifts throughout the day in whichever arena of life you find yourself. Others will be blessed, you will be fulfilled, and God will be honored.
