Majestic Moments #5: The Rock Ledge

Someone has said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” These breathtaking moments happen every so often just to remind you that God is there and He cares about you more than you could ever know. These periodic experiences are the majestic moments of our lives.

Over the years I’ve realized how many of my majestic moments have taken place outdoors. There’s something about being in God’s creation that opens the communication lines between us.

The view was magnificent. Four of us sat on a rocky ledge in the foothills of Pike’s Peak. As the sun was setting we listened to praise songs and talked about our lives. The lyrics to one song especially moved my spirit:

“I’m amazed at all You’ve done for me;
Who I am, that You’d bless me so.
I stand in awe of all Your wondrous deeds;
You’ve dealt with me so graciously.
Broken by all the times I’ve failed,
And the days I’ve hung my head in shame.
Time and again I’m driven to my knees,
And I find Your great compassion there for me.”

One of my friends was overcome with grief because he had no relationship whatsoever with his son from a first marriage. We listened, laid hands on our friend, and prayed earnestly. Tears flowed freely as we sensed the Spirit moving among us. It was a moment that took my breath away.

Have there been moments in your life that took your breath away? I hope so because these experiences give life deeper meaning and fulfillment. It’s similar to the difference between watching a movie in Black and White versus Technicolor.

Most of these experiences happen when I’m living out my calling. Do you know the specific, unique reason God put you on earth? When you do, life becomes a great adventure. And God showers you with even more moments that take your breath away.
