Verses on Purpose: Habakkuk 2:3

“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”

There are many well-known “verses on purpose” (e.g., Jeremiah 29:11). Others, like Habakkuk 2:3, are gold waiting to be discovered.

At conception, a seed is planted in the mother’s womb. The embryo grows over 9 months until the child is ready to be born. The mother eats healthy foods and avoids harmful substances. She goes for regular checkups to monitor the baby’s progress. The two develop their relationship throughout the developmental process. At the right time, the mother enters labor and the infant is born. The parents rejoice when they finally see their child’s face.

The birth cycle is a metaphor for the birth of a vision – a sense of your purpose. God plants the seed within you. It develops as you consume biblical truth and avoid evil. You meet with God regularly to monitor your spiritual life. Along the way you develop an intimate relationship with God. At His appointed time, as you labor to serve others, God reveals the vision. And You rejoice when it’s clearly visible.

Your purpose is not what you choose to do for God; it’s what God chooses to do through you, and He reveals it at His appointed time. What should you do while waiting for its revelation? Nurture the vision by consuming the Word and avoiding evil. Seek regular checkups with God as you develop a more intimate relationship. Serve others, and when His appointed time arrives, rejoice!
