Verses on Purpose: Deuteronomy 29:29

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

Sprinkled throughout Scripture are “verses on purpose.” God is intentional and practical. He made you with a specific purpose in mind, and He gave you everything needed to fulfill it.

The “verses on purpose” won’t reveal why you’re here on earth. They are merely markers indicating the direction to head. Knowing why you’re here comes by walking with God.

In His Sovereignty, God chose to reveal some things and keep other things secret. For example, in the Old Testament God revealed that a Messiah was coming, but kept secret when it would happen. Similarly, in the New Testament Jesus Christ revealed that He is coming back again, but kept the timetable hidden.

In terms of purpose, the Bible reveals that we are all sinners in need of a Savior – Jesus Christ. This is the universal call to salvation given to everyone. God first calls us to Himself. The second call is only for believers. This is the unique call to service. God gives every believer an individual assignment. So God first calls us to salvation, then service.

The second call is why you’re here on earth. God intends for you to serve a specific group of people, or meet a specific need, through your time, talents, and treasure. How do you know this calling? Start serving! In God’s appointed time He will reveal your unique assignment. Just stay connected, surrendered, and obedient to Him.
