Stars and Scars: Part 2 of 4

The stars shine brightly with no expectation of thanks; we look at the stars with absolute awe and admiration. This is a picture of what your life as a believer is meant to be like. You are like the stars. You serve others by shining forth the true Light without expecting anything in return. And the people you serve will see more than your physical presence; unconsciously they see God working through you to touch their lives. Subsequently, God alone receives their wonder and amazement.

STARS are the highlights of our lives. In the last posting you looked at the most memorable moment of your life. But there’s another type of STAR. This one is where you serve others and come away knowing that somehow God showed up. Sometimes a person will tell you something special happened. Other times you sense it in your Spirit. On a few occasions there will be some tangible evidence that God changed a life. The old adage is true. It is more blessed to give than receive.

Personal Exercise: Use the same sheet of paper as before to record the ministry STARS of your life. Close your eyes. Try to remember up to age 10. Was there a time you helped someone and was a special experience? It doesn’t have to have been at church; it might have been at home, school, work, or in the community. Write an label describing this experience and place it diagonally below the line. Continue with the other decades until you reach your current age.

Reflection: Now focus on the big picture. Look for common themes. What did you do when you serve others? Who did you serve? Where did your serving take place. After your analysis, ask yourself, “What have I learned about how God made me to serve others?” Thank Him for making you … you!
